Is OUTSIDE Really better than inside?

I’m a much better person when I spend time OUTSIDE! Just ask my wife…my kids or my friends…but above all my wife…she will be brutally honest! When I moved back to Texas two years ago, I was looking for a new vocation and Landscape Architecture captivated my attention. By the shear grace of God did I found Landvisions’ job posting on Monster.com while still living in the Dominican Republic. My past work experience had been primarily high end residential Architectural design/build projects in the Caribbean. Much of my focus was integrating outdoor environments with indoor living spaces and Landscape Architecture, as I have come to discover, is so much more than plants and irrigation.
Never in a million years had I EVER planned on moving back to Texas. Having traveled most of the western hemisphere from Alaska to the Patagonia and much of Western Europe, returning home to my Texas roots wasn’t in the cards. Well, here I am and I can say that life in East Texas isn’t so bad. How…after living in a Caribbean paradise for almost 2 decades, could I embrace a move back to Texas? GREAT question…and the answer is quite simple. Plenty of Good People and the reality that spending time outside is a viable option ALL YEAR long. Working for the premier Landscape Architecture Firm East of the DFW metro-plex offers me an opportunity to share my passion for the outdoors with my clients on a daily basis.
The healthiest and happiest people on the planet tend to be the ones that log plenty of hours outdoors. This even holds true for those of us who toil in manual work in the midst of harsh climate conditions. We smile more, We look better, We sleep better, We tend to enjoy what we are doing more if we are Outside. We Breath Cleaner Air and when we are Outside, contact with the earth has a positive effect on our mental state. We are more active Outside for longer periods of time as opposed to being active indoors. There is a book on psychological health…Getting outside on a regular basis can have many beneficial affects on our mental well being. Spending time in nature has been linked to improved attention spans (short and long term), boosts in serotonin (the feel good neurotransmitter) and shows increased activity in the parts of the brain responsible for empathy, emotional stability, and love (whereas urban environments do the same for fear and anxiety). There are so many benefits to being outside and I really enjoy helping facilitate people getting outside more often. One of our missions here at Landvisions is to Create Outdoor Spaces that help PEOPLE do life TOGETHER…BETTER! For me, as I get plugged into life here in East Texas, that includes cycling with friends 3 to 4 days a week, sharing food and drinks around our fire pit at the house and enjoying True Vine’s Back Yard with the larger Tyler Community.
I also participate in events like the Fresh 15 foot race
and the Rose City Triathlon Enjoying friend’s outdoor spaces is also a great Treat!! Life can be so rich when your doing Life with people you love….and everything is extra vibrant and beautiful when your OUTSIDE!! So make time…get outside with some friends….get dirty…take a nap on the grass…break a sweat….Laugh some…Just get outside. And if your serious about spending more time outdoors give us a Call and we can help make it easier to Do Life Better together. THRIVE OUTSIDE!
